Poha is an indian breakfast and snack prepared in the cuisines of Indian states of maharastra,odisa etc  pohe is popular morning breakfast which is consumed by many people. Poha is generally consumed in morning and evening as a snack. Children can also take it to school or college. Poha or pohe is generally garnished with sev or onion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup poha
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp cumin / jeera
  • pinch hing / asafoetida
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 chilli, finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp coconut, grated
  • 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Steps

  • Firstly, add sugar and salt on soaked poha and mix gently.                                                              
  • In a large pan heat oil and roast peanuts on low flame.                                                                        
  • In the same oil, splutter mustard,  cumin, pinch hing and few curry leaves.                         
  • Further add onion, chilli and saute well.                                                                                          
  • Saute until onions shrink slightly without browning.                                                                     
  • Further, add turmeric and saute well.                                                                                                     
  • Add in soaked poha and mix gently until everything is combined well.                                         
  • Cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until the flavours are absorbed well.                                      
  • Also add  coconut, coriander and  lemon juice. mix gently.                                                          
  • Finally, serve hot kanda poha topped with some sev.
