Vada Pav | Snacks Recipe | Heathy Food | Maharastrian Food


The Vada pav is one of the most humble street foods in Maharastra, yet it tastes and tastes great. The vada pav basically consists of Batata vada placed between two pieces of Pav, as well as sweet chutney, green chutney and dried garlic chutney. I have had a vada pav in many places in Mumbai since I was a child. Even today when I go to Mumbai, I am sure I have a vada pav there. But sometimes I make them home.The Vada pav can be found at any time of the day such as breakfast, brunch or dinner. The Vada pav goes very well with Indian tea and is often served with fried green peppers and chutney.


  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 7 to 8 curry leaves
  • Oil
  • asafoetida
  • 6 to 7 garlic and 1 to 2 green chilies
  • ⅛ tsp turmeric powder
  • coriander leaves. Also add salt.
  • 1 to 1.25 cups besan/gram flour
  • Pav – dinner rolls
  • Batata vada – fried potato stuffed fritter.
  • Green chutney
  • Sweet tamarind chutney or saunth chutney
  • Dry garlic chutney

  • Boil 2 large potatoes, about 350 grams. Peel and fork in a bowl.

  • heat 2 to 3 tsp of oil during a small pan. Add ½ tsp mustard seeds and crush. Then add 7 to 8 leaves of curry and asafoetida. Mix and drive for about five seconds.

  •  then add 6 to 7 garlic and 1 to 2 green chilies, crushed during mortar-pestle. Add ⅛ tsp turmeric powder.
  •  stir until the green aroma of garlic is gone. 
  • Pour this mixture into mashed potatoes.
  •  Add 1 to 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves. And add salt.
  •  Mix everything well. Then make small to medium balls from the potato mixture. Fill these balls with a touch. Close and keep aside.
  • Making batata vada for vada pav
  •  In another bowl, make a smooth batter from 1 to 1.25 cups besan / gram flour, ⅛ tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of asafoetida, a pinch of bicarbonate of soda (optional), salt and ½ a cup of water. The batter should not be too big or too thin. When the batter becomes thin, add 1 or 2 tablespoons of gram flour. When the batter becomes thick, add 1 or 2 tbsp water.
  • Dip a handful of small flat potatoes into the batter and place them evenly with the batter.
  • Gently roll the mashed potatoes into medium fat.

  •  by calculating the size of the kadai or pan, you will add more or less vada while frying.

  •  Fry deep these batata vadas until golden.
  • Clean the kitchen paper towels. Make the whole vada this way and keep it aside.
  • Combining vada pav
  • If they are still hot or warm, you may want to feed them. Take all the chutneys and pav on your face. Cut the pav without breaking it into two pieces and set aside. if you do not have delicious chutney, just make vada pav with raw chutney.
  • Sprinkle both raw chutney and sweet chutney in the cut dye. you will also spread green chutney on the one hand and sweet chutney on the other.
  • Sprinkle chutney with dried garlic. this is usually optional and if you do not have it you can skip it.
